The “O Antiphons” are prayers that are usually sung (in the Roman Catholic and Anglican traditions) or recited (Presbyterian) during the week leading up to Christmas (December 17-23). I’m going to post them here in addition to our Advent reading and reflections, with some Scripture for each of them as well. If you would like the Latin version as well as the English, Bryan will be posting those daily as well along with audio of the chant. Cool!
The first O Antiphon is O Sapienta (or O Wisdom) for evening prayer, December 17th:
O Wisdom,
coming forth from the mouth of the Most high
pervading and permeating all creation,
you order all things with strength and gentleness:
Come now, and teach us the way to salvation
Isaiah 11:2:
“And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him,
the Spirit of wisdom and understanding,
the Spirit of counsel and might,
the Spirt of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.
