Bryan, over at katagraphais, posted his own survey and I tagged myself with it, because I was bored. Here it is:
I thought I might give you all a glance at what I’ve been doing recently (obviously not blogging), so here’s a quick survey I gave to myself.
What are you Listening To?
I just got Andrew Peterson’s new album: Resurrection Letters: Volume II. I preordered it about two months ago and have been anxiously waiting for it, so its arrival was well received. Peterson’s lyrics are always piercing, which is one reason I enjoy his music so much. You can’t just casually listen. Everything is carefully thought through so that the hearer is engaged with the song.
What have you been reading?
Apart from textbooks, I’ve just finished Rob Bell’s new book Jesus Wants to Save Christians: A Manifesto for the Church in Exile and Mark Driscoll’s Death by Love: Letters from the Cross. I also read a collection of sermons by Martin Luther King, Jr., Strength to Love. Next up on my list is John Piper’s Spectacular Sins
What have you been meditating on?
I’ve been thinking about a paper topic I’ve been researching, and that is whether or not natural theology can be done rightly. My sense at the moment is that we can do “natural theology” but only insofar as what we learn from nature about God has been subjected to the authority of Scripture. For example, I can see that nature points to a higher cause, a Designer. However, it would lead me to no more than the god of the philosophers. Now, God is definitely not less than a first cause, so natural theology is useful there, but I can know nothing specific about this God save through the teaching of Scripture… This is a little heavy to do here, but that’s what I’ve been thinking lately.
What classes are you taking? Elementary Hebrew (w/ Dr. Russell Fuller); Systematic Theology I (w/ Dr. Bruce A. Ware); The African-American Church in Historical Perspective (w/ Dr. Kevin Smith).
Why haven’t you been blogging? See the answer to the last question.
I’ve been reading this blog from a Presbyterian minister that has been quite rewarding lately. He’s unlike any PCUSA minister I’ve read about before. He has a very centrist and evangelical perspective that is inspiring.
Take a look at his blog:
